Pedestrians hurt in dangerous intersection

A seven year old boy and his grandfather were hit by a vehicle in within the crosswalk at the intersection of Harriet and McCoy avenues near the Campbell’s Bucknall area.  The two were hit by a Ford Explorer, and were transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and treated for moderate injuries.  Parents are concerned about the crosswalk and intersection because there is an elementary school nearby.  In the past five years, there have been two incidents at the intersection, including the most recent pedestrian accident.  In 2007 there was a no-injury vehicle collision.  The debate over whether extra cautions are really necessary continues as one side claims there is not enough foot traffic to warrant the added expense while the other side says there would be more pedestrians if the intersection were safer.  Parents of the nearby Forest Hill Elementary School are even more upset by this latest accident.  Many of the parents and children that would walk to school choose to drive instead because they feel the crosswalk is unsafe.
