Hit and Run Driver Plows into CHP Officer

A driver ran into a California Highway Patrol officer near Pala, CA and drove away after the accident. The injured CHP officer was being treated for an ankle injury Wednesday.

The police officer was hit and run while doing traffic control near the scene of another accident that occured at Pala Temecula Road, according to authorities.

The driver accused of striking the officer allegedly sped off southbound, then crashed into an ambulance that was about to take a patient from the earlier crash to a hospital.

The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested immediately following the second crash. The officer was taken to a hospital, a Cal Fire dispatcher said.

The CHP was investigating whether alcohol may have been a factor in the car accident.
