American tennis champion, Sam Querrey, who is ranked number 25 in the world, cut his arm badly last September in Thailand when he sat on a glass table to avoid sitting in his sweaty spot on the couch. Upon sitting on the table, he went through it, and glass cut deeply into his arm. He was rushed to the hospital and quickly treated, and now is recovering. He will finally be able to go back to playing tennis in January after missing five tournaments due to his injury.

While trying to reholster his .40-caliber Glock after a peace officer training in Niagara Falls, Chief Gregory Colangelo accidently shot himself and was treated for a superficial gunshot wound at the Erie County Medical Center. Chief Colangelo had been giving a peace officer training at the North Forest Road and Gun Club. Part of the training involved firing three magazines of five rounds each, and apparently, Chief Colangelo still had his finger on the trigger while reholstering his gun, and it went off, firing down his right thigh. A family member reported Tuesday evening that the officer is now recovering well at home.

Thomas Young, 71, and a self-professed cat lover, could not stand to listen to the howls of a feral cat caught in a trap under his neighbor’s house after two days. On July 14 and 15 of this year, Young, a former Nielsen Media executive, heard howls of a cat trapped in a raccoon trap under his neighbor’s Westhampton Beach house. Concerned about the well-being of the animal, Young crawled under the house and let the cat loose. He decided to save any other cats the same fate and went back under the house to spray cat repellent on the five raccoon traps located there. Deanne and Hebert Jacobi, the owners of the beach house and raccoon traps has claimed the traps are now useless, and a deal was reached on October 15 at the start of his trial.

Young was charged with two counts of second-degree trespassing, entering the Jacobis’ property uninvited, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief for springing the raccoon traps. These charges will be dropped on November 15 in Young stays out of trouble until that date. The Jacobis had hired a licensed trapper to catch the raccoons that were causing damage to their beachfront vacation home. Because Young felt the need to have mercy on the feral cat, and save any other cats the same fate, he sprayed a cat repellent on the traps, which in effect, rendered them useless to catch raccoons as well. Young has agreed to pay $696 in restitution to the Jacobis.

A Hudson, Texas police officer allegedly improperly arrested a man on October 2 of this year, although no criminal charges will be filed. Chris Nair, the unlawfully arrested man, says the police officer searched his pick-up truck without consent and arrested him for having one Vicodin pill. He also was cited for not having a rear bumper, which is not an illegal offense. Texas Ranger Sgt. Pete Maskunas agrees that what happened was not proper, but he does not believe it was a criminal offense. The Hudson Police Department will take administrative action against the overzealous officer.
