From 6:00 am Saturday, until noon on Sunday, 282 accidents were called into the Colorado Springs Police Department. Police believe there were many other accidents that went unreported due to minor damage, no injuries, and without drugs or alcohol involved. Although Tamara Curtis was flown to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, she died after being broadsided by a pick-up truck driven by Corey Hackett at the Y-shaped intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and 300th Street. Nicole Gallo, 19, was killed instantly when Rachael Jankins hit her with her car on August 14 just outside Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Christine Bochanski, 20, was also hit, but is recovering after surgery for a broken back. Everyone inside a 1994 Honda Accord, traveling west on US-178, was killed when a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck, traveling east on the same road collided with it. A school bus with twenty-two elementary age students aboard slammed head on into a tree on Whitehaven Road in Grand Island, NY. A seven year old boy and his grandfather were hit by a vehicle in within the crosswalk at the intersection of Harriet and McCoy avenues near the Campbell’s Bucknall area. The two were hit by a Ford Explorer, and were transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and treated for moderate injuries. A driver ran into a California Highway Patrol officer near Pala, CA and drove away after the accident. The injured CHP officer was being treated for an ankle injury Wednesday.
