Elizabeth Whitfield, of Anderson County, SC, called 911 to report her 10-month old son was having problems breathing. Emergency crews arrived and took the mother and her two sons to a local hospital. There, Jacob Whitfield, only 10 months old, was pronounced dead. The mother was coated in chemicals from a bug fogger when she arrived at the hospital. An investigation into the cause of the death led to seven fog containers being found in the single-wide mobile home. Whitfield says she set off three of the foggers when she moved into the home about a month ago to fight an insect problem. When the problem continued, she continued to use the foggers. It is thought the pesticide caused the death of Jacob, but confirmation will be made through toxicology reports, which could take weeks.
